Here's Why Magic: The Gathering Organized Play is The Best Possible Marketing For A Product

Last weekend, the Magic: The Gathering World Championship XXVI featured sixteen of the world's best Magic players compete in Honolulu, Hawaii for the $1 milllion prize pool and the World Championship trophy, and it was the Brazilian MTG Hall of Famer, Paulo Vitor Damo da Rosa (PVDDR) who dominated the three-day competition and won the $300,000 grand prize and the trophy.

Thanks to Paulo's victory, Magic: The Gathering is getting more attention in Brazil as the country shows its pride for the World Champion, and MTG player Willy Edel has shared a photo to prove it. The photo shows a Brazilian news channel reporting about PVDDR's win.

"In case anyone wonders if Organized Play (esports if you want) is the best possible marketing for a product," Edel wrote. "This picture was taken in public transportation in Brazil. I never seen anything like that ever for card games and it wasnt a paid promotion."

Here's the English translation of the news report: "Card game: Brazilian known as PV is the Magic world champion, and fans celebrate."

It's exciting to see that the Magic World Championship is getting more coverage, even in places and channels where you don't usually see anyone talking about what many consider the best game in the world. This year's MTG World Championship was a huge step for Wizards of the Coast as it was also the first Magic World Championship that featured Magic: The Gathering Arena, the digital version of the card game instead of tabletop, and it also offered the largest prize pool in any Magic tournament ever. This is a great sign that MTG esports is growing, and it also shows how important organized play is for the marketing of the brand. Hopefully Paulo's victory will inspire many new players from around the world to compete.
