When Attack on Titan manga wrapped up with its final chapter last April, some fans criticized the finale, and now creator Hajime Isayama has responded to the criticisms.
Isayama recently talked to Kodanhsha, the publisher of Attack on Titan, and during the conversation, Isayama shared his thoughts about the critiques launched at the finale. He said that he gets why some fans criticized the ending. After all, the finale was a dark chapter, and much of the criticism aimed at Eren Yeager's tragic ending, with some fans even comparing his ending to Lelouch Lamperouge of Code Geass.
Twitter user AttackOnFans shared the English translation of Isayama's response, saying that he didn't express his message as fully as he wanted in the finale. Isayama "realized that the climax was a very difficult theme for him to draw. So he regretted not being able to express it properly in the manga. He thought he would please everyone with the final chapter. So he is sorry to those he disappointed, yet thanks them for the support," the translator said.
As much as I enjoyed Isayama's series, I thought the ending was one of the most disappointing ones. There's nothing glorifying about Eren killing 80% of the population even though he did it for his friends, Mikasa and Armin. Code Geass clearly had a better ending.
