8-Person Magic: The Gathering Draft Coming To MTG Arena

Wizards of the Coast has confirmed that the eight-person draft feature is coming to Magic: The GatheringArena later this year.

In today's February State of the Game, WotC has announced what changes are coming to the free-to-play card game soon. Magic Arena is also celebrating the upcoming Magic World Championship later this month, and the game is supporting the Draft portion of the event by adding the option for players to Direct Challenge each other in Limited Tournament Match that will follow the same rules as other Best-of-Three Draft formats in MTG Arena. However, this is not what the company meant when they referred to eight-person drafts in the developer roadmap they revealed last month.

According to Wizards, they are actively developing on the ability for players to draft against other human players completely in the game, and that feature will be arriving in a game update later this year.

Right now, Draft in MTG Arena works differently compared to how drafts are done in tabletop since you're drafting cards with bots instead of with other human players. It's assuring to hear that real draft is coming to the client later this year, and I hope we'll see major Magic tournaments use Arena's upcoming eigth-person Draft future to run Limited events.

Here are the other features coming to MTG Arena later this year:
