"We will tell the stories we want to tell, featuring the characters and relationships that best serve the story and our audience," Wizards said in their website. "Our focus will be crafting engaging and relatable stories. These stories will have diverse casts of characters with varied experiences, challenges, and adventures."

The company went on to say that although they will not change these stories to accommodate local markets, some regions prohibit subject matter they think is valuable in their storytelling. Because of this, some of their content will not be available in those markets.

"While we do not agree with these laws, we are required to follow them," Wizards said. "We must also consider the welfare of community members in impacted locations.

"This decision empowers us to freely weave stories reflective of our community values," Wizards added. "We regret that some of our fans will not have access to this lore, but we will strive to be as consistent as possible across all markets and look forward to when our content can be accessible to everyone."

This explains why Wizards' statement about last year's Chandra controversy was blocked in Russia, China, and other Southeast Asian countries. "Over the past week, we have seen and heard strong reactions from fans about how we handled the resolution of the Nissa-Chandra romantic relationship in the recent Forsaken novel, and we apologize," the statement reads. "We didn't live up to the expectations we created for Chandra and what she means to our fans." You can read the rest of the statement here.
