Amazon Prime Video has revealed a first look at one of the main characters of its upcoming epic fantasy series The Wheel of Time, Moiraine Damodred of the Aes Sedai. You can watch the clip on YouTube and through the show's official Twitter. The video features a close-up look at Rosamund Pike as Moiraine, opening her eyes while apparently channeling the One Power, which is shown by sounds of flash of light and crackling energy. Although her character is not visibly speaking in the clip, you can hear her voice saying, "Do not underestimate the women in this tower."

Pike, the first actor to be cast in The Wheel of Time series, recently won a Golden Globe award for Best Actress in I Care a Lot. She plays Moiraine, a member of the incredibly powerful all-female organization called the Aes Sedai. The Wheel of Time sotry features Moiraine arriving in the small town of Two Rivers. There, she embarks on a dangerous, world-spanning journey with five young men and women, one of whom is prophesied to be the Dragon Reborn, who will either save or destroy humanity.

The Wheel of Time Season 1 is currently in production, but Amazon Video hasn't announced a premiere date yet. The clip featuring the first look at Moiraine is the latest in a series of promos released for the epic fantasy series, including concept art for locations and props for the show, but this is the first clip that shows our first look at a character in costume.

Originally published in 1990, Robert Jordan's The Wheel of Time fantasy series consists of fourteen novels, the last three of which were co-written by Brandon Sanderson following Jordan's death in 2007. The Wheel of Time, which follows a group of young villagers coming to terms with their own powers while being drawn into a global conflict, is set in a world in which only women can wield the magical One Power without losing their sanity.

Amazon's official description of the show as one that is "set in a sprawling, epic world where magic exists and only certain women are allowed to access it."
