Netflix's The Witcher Season 2 already wrapped up production, and despite the show being impacted by COVID-19, the show has been moving ahead. Based on the book series of the same title by Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski, the fantasy series follows the adventures of Geralt of Rivia (Henry Cavill), a magical monster hunter who traverses a medieval-inspired world. The first season introduced Geralt, the quarter-elf sorceress Yennefer (Anya Chalotra), and Ciri, a princess with magical gifts.

Here's everything we know so far about Season 2 of The Witcher, including the plot, cast and crew, release date, and more.

The Witcher Season 1 introduced the main characters in three different timelines: In 1206, Yennefer is training as a sorceress under Tissaia de Vries; 1231: Geralt is fighting outlaws when he learns of a girl in the woods who will be his destiny; 1263: the young Princess Cirilla, a.k.a. Ciri, is escaping the kingdom of Cintra as Nilfgaardian forces invade her kingdom. Throughout Season 1, storylines gradually converge, and we saw the beginning of the romance between Geralt and Yennefer, while Ciri is forced to confront her magical powers as she flees the Nilfgaardians in 1263.

After a deadly sorcery-infused battle at Sodden Hill, Geralt learns that Ciri is the prophesied girl in the forest. He meets her in the Season 1 finale, but it's unclear what happened to Yennefer after the battle.

The Witcher Season 2 is based on Andrzej Sapkowski's novel Blood of Elves and the beginning of Time of Contempt, and it will feature Kaer Morhen, a training ground for witchers and Geralt's childhood home.

Netflix released an official synopsis to tease what to expect from the Season 2 episodes:

Convinced Yennefer's life was lost at the Battle of Sodden, Geralt of Rivia brings Princess Cirilla to the safest place he knows, his childhood home of Kaer Morhen. While the Continent's kings, elves, humans and demons strive for supremacy outside its walls, he must protect the girl from something far more dangerous: the mysterious power she possesses inside.

From the synopsis, it sounds like Season 2 will feature Ciri's Witcher training will be under the tutelage of Vesemir (a confirmed character).

In a featurette released on August 6, showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich revealed that the first episode of Season 2 will adapt Andrzej Sapkowski's short story A Grain of Truth.

In the original tale, Geralt stumbles upon a rundown manor, inhabited by a cursed nobleman named Nivellen (played by Kristofer Hivju in the Netflix series)

"It's a story of a father and daughter coming together in a place that doesn't quite feel safe for them. We really get into Nivellen, who is played by the incomparable Kristofer Hivju. We get to explore his character and his backstory with Geralt as well," she said. "It's about the secrets that we keep from each other, and the monsters that we are inside sometimes."

Netflix also shared the first page of script from The Witcher Season 2:

In December 2021, Ciri actress Freya Allan talked about Ciri's evolution in The Witcher Season 2.

Speaking to Comicbook.com, Freya explained her character's evolution:

"I mean, combat wise, she's got a long way to go. I as Freya was like, can't I just kill the monsters myself instead of Geralt? I wasn't allowed to do anything like that," Allan said. "So I think she's got a long way to go. She's got monsters to kill. She's got people to fight, but yeah, and I think she's always going to be evolving for however many seasons we are able to do, we're going to be doing season three and I've already read some episodes. And there's always, obviously each season she's going to change and strengthen and find new weaknesses and everything like that. So we'll just have to see."
