Magic: The Gathering Secret Lair: Black is Magic Announced to Celebrate Black History Month


Wizards of the Coast has announced the Secret Lair: Black is Magic drop to celebrate Black History Month. The limited edition Magic: The Gathering product celebrates and supports different expressions of Black identity. The new Secret Lair drop will be available for preorder starting February 22 through March 31, 2021 with proceeds benefitting the digital art, game design, and game development programs of Black Girls CODE, an organization that empowers girls of color in game design and other coding programs.

Each card in the Black is Magic drop was illustrated by a Black artist. The new Shalai, Voice of Plenty was illustrated by Ernanda Souza; and the new Ponder art was illustrated by Ejiwa 'Edge' Ebenebe. The other cards that haven't been revealed yet are illustrated by Hillary Wilson, Dani Pendergast, KNIIO, Thomas Zenteno, and Julio Reyna.

1x Borderless alternate-art Shalai, Voice of Plenty

Black Girls CODE aims to increase the number of women of color in the digital space by empowering girls of color between ages seven and seventeen to become innovators in STEM fields, leaders in their communities, and builders of their own futures through exposure to computer science and technology.

Wizards of the Coast will reveal more details for the Black is Magic Secret Lair on Feb. 9 and Feb. 16.

The Black is Magic Secret Lair drop will be available in both foil and non-foil. They will be available for preorder on the official Secret Lair website.
