Magic: The Gathering Pro Oliver Tiu Leaves Competitive MTG & Explains Why

Magic: The Gathering professional player Oliver Tiu has announced that he will begin working as an Associate Game Designer for Wizards of the Coast's popular card game, and that he will be leaving competitive Magic to focus on his new job. The 22-year-old American pro shared the news on Twitter:

Tiu had built a decent following as a streamer but haven't streamed since he started preparations for the Magic Online Championship, in which he finished fourth.

"Big announcement: In a few weeks, I will begin working as an associate game designer for Magic," Tiu said. Going to miss playing competitive mtg, but I'm looking forward to this next chapter in my life."

Tiu recently won fourth in the 2019 Magic Online Championship. He was the 2015-2016 Rookie of the Year and won the Constructed Master title in that season.

With Tiu's expert knowledge in the Constructed format, hopefully he will help improve the Standard format in the near future as a game designer.
