Magic: Legends, the free-to-play action role-playing game from Crytpic Studios, Perfect World, and Wizards of the Coast, will finally be released for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One this year. The Diablo-like game is set in the Multiverse of the popular card game Magic: The Gathering, and it features a deckbuilding system that allows players to customize how they approach battles. If you want to enter Magic's Multiverse in this ARPG soon, here's a guide to get you started with the open beta coming this March.
What is Magic: Legends?
The official description of Magic: Legends reads:
An ancient force moves in the darkness, requiring adventurers to traverse various planes of the Magic: The Gathering Multiverse and gather the power needed to fight this evil. Developed by Cryptic Studios and published by Perfect World Entertainment, players will choose their path through the planes while collecting and upgrading a multitude of spells to create a powerful spell library. Players control the chaos of spell-slinging combat as they fight to save the Multiverse from its greatest threats yet

When is will the Magic: Legends open beta start?
On January 26, Cryptic Studios and IGN announced that the open beta for Magic: Legends will start on March 23, so players around the world will be able to explore the Magic Multiverse.
Magic: Legends Executive Producer Steven Ricossa also confirmed this news in the second development video for the game.
How can I sign up for the Magic: Legends open beta?
You can sign up for the Magic: Legends open beta for free by going to the game's official website playmagiclegends.com, and from there, you will have to sign up for an Arc account. A beta key will be sent to those who are approved, and they will be able to join the open beta this March.
What is the gameplay of Magic: Legends like?
In Magic: Legends, you can choose from five different classes of planeswalkers (Sanctifier, Mind Mage, Necromancer, Geomancer, and Beastcaller), and you can switch between all five as you play. Players gain experience (XP) by completing various missions and quests throughout their journeys. When a planeswalker earns a sufficient amount of XP, they level up. Characters get stronger as they level up, gaining more hit points and dealing more damage as they go. Upon reaching milestone levels however, players unlock class features: enhanced class abilities, class perks, and class traits.
Players can also buy extra themed Planeswalker classes that give you more options to choose from when constructing your loadouts. These classes will have their own progression trees.

How do you build a deck in Magic: Legends?
Although it's not a card game like Magic: The Gathering, Magic: Legends lets you build a deck of 12 cards that constantly cycle, with 4 active cards and a collection of handy abilities to battle your way through endless creatures and maps. You can combine buffs, spells, and summons. The spells are chosen from Magic's five colors of mana each with their own distinctive characteristics and mechanics, so if you're familiar with the kind of spells blue, white, green, red, and black colors do in Magic, you'd probably have an idea what kind of spells you can unleash for each color in this ARPG.
On Jan. 26, Cryptic Studios released a new video explaining how to build a spell deck in Magic: Legends.
When you begin Magic: Legends, you will start with a preconstructed deck, and as you progress to the multiverse, you'll find and earn spell pages of specific spells. When you collect enough spell pages, you harvest enough ether for mission content, then you'll be able to upgrade your spell's rank and effectiveness.
There are three categories of spells: creature spells, enchantment spells, and sorcery spells. Creature spells are the army of Magic creatures that you can summon during battle; enchantment spells create an ongoing effect for a set amount of time, which can synergize with other spells you cast; and sorcery spells are single-use powers that can turn the tides of battle to your favor.
Spells come in four different rarities: common, uncommon, rare, and mythic rare. The video also explains the restrictions in the game: your decks are limited to one or two colors at a time. Creature summon spells are restricted to a total of 12 creature points in your deck, so that means you decide on whether you want to focus on fewer tougher summons or more numerous but individually weaker ones.
