Kaldheim Brings Back Magic: The Gathering Poison Counters With Flynn, The Fangbearer

Kaldheim is introducing new Magic: The Gathering mechanics like Boast and Foretell, but it's also bringing back familiar ones like Changeling, Sagas, Snow, and Vehicles. While the upcoming Norse mythology-inspired won't be bringing back the Infect mechanic, there's one card in the set that provides support for its archetype.

Meet Flynn, the Fangbearer! An uncommon two-to-cast 1/3 green Human Warrior legendary creature with Deathtouch that gives creatures you control with Deathtouch the ability to give two poison counters (A player with ten or more poison counters loses the game).

Every hit gives two poison counters, so that means you only need Flynn to hit your opponent five times to win the game. I'm not sure if there enough Standard-legal creatures with Deathtouch to make poison a viable winning strategy in Standard constructed format, but it would be fun to make this card efficient.

Another interesting green card from Kaldheim revealed recently is a rare Enchantment called In Search of Greatness. This card lets you cast permanent spells from your hand for free. Check it out:

Kaldheim is set to release on February 5, 2021 for tabletop, and Jan. 28 on Magic Arena and Magic Online. The set will be followed by Strixhaven: School of Mages, which is set to release sometime in Spring 2021.
