Final Fantasy XIV Reveals Its Technical Improvements on PS5

Final Fantasy XIV, the popular MMORPG from Square Enix, will soon arrive on PlayStation 5 with significant improvements over the PlayStation 4 version. With a free update for PS4 users, Sony has revealed technical improvements on the PS5 version, which is also prepping to launch its new expansion, Endwalker.

The Final Fantasy XIV PS5 Open Beta is scheduled to launch on April 13, with a full launch later this year. According to the PlayStation blog, the PS5 version will feature faster loader times, significantly improved frame rates, 4K resolution support, renewed interface with menus at higher resolution, and more. Players whose FFXIV service account has a registered license for PS4 may download the play the PS5 Upgrade Version at no extra cost. New players on PS5 can do a Free Trial, which lets you play on all of A Real Reborn and Heavensward (up through Patch 3.56), so there are two full games worth of content. The full version of the game will be available for purchase after the open beta ends later this year.

Square Enix notes that all data from the open beta will be transferred to the full version. The official service start date of the PS5 version will be announced on the lodestone, and determined "based on the progress of the open beta test."
