Here's When The New Star Wars Spinoff Announcement Will Be Made, According to Kathleen Kennedy

We're already looking forward to the next three Star Wars films: The Last Jedi, which is set to release this December; the Han Solo standalone film that will be released next year; and Star Wars: Episode IX, but what's after those films? Lucasfilm and Disney haven't provided any details about the third live-action spinoff film until today. It looks like they have a couple of ideas they're trying to decide to do next, and according to Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy, we'll find out which one they'll choose next month. Speaking to Vanity Fair, Kennedy said:

"Yes. We haven't identified it yet, but yes. We have a couple of things right now that we're circling, and we'll make a decision between the two pretty shortly. It's probably for 2020, and we will make a decision by June."

Of course, the two most popular Star Wars characters speculated to have their own spinoff films are Obi-Wan Kenobi and Boba Fett. Ewan McGregor is still interested in reprising his prequel trilogy role, so I hope they cast him for the spinoff film if they decide to make an Obi-Wan. However, a Boba Fett is the more likely choice since the film was previously in development with the Fantastic Four director Josh Trank.

Which kind of Star Wars spinoff would you like to see next?

Stay tuned on Epistream next month. We'll report it as soon as Lucasfilm announces it.
