Hellboy Hoping To Replace Ed Skrein With Daniel Dae Kim

Millenium's Hellboy reboot ran into a bit of trouble after it cast Ed Skrein as the Japanese-American soldier Major Ben Daimio. Running into some whitewashing controversy, the Deadpool star decided to leave the project, respecting the character's ethnicity after fans called foul.

Now, as Hellboy continues to prepare for production, it seems like the reboot has its eyes on a more appropriate actor for Daimio.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, CBS former Hawaii Five-O star Daniel Dae Kim is currently in talks to join Hellboy as the dead Marine. For those who aren't that familiar with the character, the Major is a former U.S. Marine who later on becomes part of the Bureau for Paranormal Research and Defense. Because of a curse, Daimio finds himself with the ability to transform in a creature that looks much like a jaguar.

Though Kim is Korean-American, his casting as Damio is much better than Skrein's, allowing Lionsgate to keep their promise to cast an Asian-American actor for the role. Hollywood has often been found guilty of whitewashing characters of different ethnicities, and with growing social awareness people have come to demand authenticity and proper cultural representation in the characters they see in media.

Hellboy is scheduled for release sometime in 2018.
