Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2’s Karen Gillan Defends Her Jumanji Character’s Outfit

Karen Gillan has been pretty busy lately, talking about her turbulent character Nebula in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 and fielding criticism on the racy outfit of her character in Jake Kasdan's Jumanji reboot.

A lot of talk has been going around about lately the overly "sexualized" costume of Gillan's character and now the actress reveals that her character, Ruby Roundhouse has a reason to wear something so revealing in Jumanji. Speaking in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter about her various film projects this year, the Scottish actress justifies the outfit that Ruby has to wear in the upcoming Jumanji reboot.

"I've experienced something similar when I worked on Doctor Who and there was such an uproar about my costume when that was first revealed, so I thought it was happening all over again. But I have to say, I'd never take on a role that was truly gratuitous for no reason. There's a really valid reason why she's wearing that. My character is really not happy about it!"

It's strange how many would attack Gillan's look considering that feminism ought to allow a woman to wear whatever she wants (what if Ruby is a confident woman who enjoys wearing revealing numbers and Gillan promises that fans will understand soon enough why Ruby has to wear "child-sized" clothes.

Jumanji is head to theaters on Dec. 22 this year.
