Guardians of the Galaxy 3 Is Happening But James Gunn Isn’t Sure About His Involvement

Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is still a month or so away from its release date, and yet it seems like the studio already has new installment planned for the gregarious and brassy space romp film series.

In an interview with Complex about The Belko Experiment, Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn is asked about the future of the space superhero film franchise, and the Marvel helmsman decides to spill the beans and confirm that a Guardians of the Galaxy 3 is on its way. The only thing is, he's not sure whether he'll be involved with the project.

"There will be a Guardians 3, that's for sure. We're trying to figure it out. I'm trying to figure out what I want to do really, that's all it is. I got to figure out where I want to be, what I want to spend the next three years of my life doing. You know, I'm going to make another big movie; is it the Guardians or something else? I'm just going to figure it out over the next couple of weeks."

It would be such a shame if Gunn decided to bolt off and hand Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3's reins to another director – we all know that Gunn has a strong passion for our favorite space thugs-turned-heroes and that he's built the team up from an obscure Marvel Comic space team to a beloved and successful Marvel film series. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 wouldn't be the same without Gunn.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is scheduled for release on May 5, 2017.
