Gintama Anime is Bound to Make 2017 a Better Year

The year 2016 may have been the worst for a lot of people, but Gintama fans can get a small consolation: TV Tokyo has confirmed a new TV anime.

Yes, and it's coming way sooner than anyone else expected. The new Gintama series will start on Jan. 8.

There are a few technicalities however, as detailed by Anime News Network. The premiere airing will be via TV Tokyo, while others like TV Hokkaido, TV Aichi, TV Setouchi, and TVQ Kyushu Broadcasting will air it on Jan. 9 at 1:35 a.m., while TV Osaka will get to air it on Jan. 10 at 1:05 a.m.

For those who have been watching in local Japan time--or have just been tuning in to the series' jokes--the timeslot is a major change. Used to be, Gintama would air during the primetime slot of 6:00 p.m., a fact that Gintoki will harp on in many of his jokes about competitiveness with other shonen anime or the boundaries of their dirty jokes.

And while there's no definitive reason as to why the show's timeslot has changed, it's easy enough to guess why. The show has been through hot water for some of its jokes being too adult for kid viewers.

Considering that a lot of their viewers are probably adults as well, I'd say it's pretty much collateral damage. At least now the kids in Japan won't be naming their historical heroes wrong--or attributing odd habits of mayo indulgence or gorilla-like tendencies to them.

This means that apart from the much-awaited live-action movie starring Shun Oguri, we'll also have the continuation of the anime. Not to mention the still upcoming second episode for Gintama: Aizoma Kaori-hen.

I will personally be looking forward to when Gintama finally gets back on TV. It's a great way to say goodbye to the messed up 2016 and look straight ahead for a better 2017.
