George R.R. Martin: HBO has Greenlit a Pilot for Game of Thrones' Successor

Game of Thrones is set to end sometime next year, and HBO has been scrambling to get spinoffs made that still take place in the land of Westeros. George R.R. Martin himself has confirmed that one of the successor shows has been ordered for a pilot, but we have yet to see if it will get picked up for a full season.

The link in the post actually goes nowhere, but that could be a clue that Martin was asked to take it down in fear of spoiling too much.

I don't know what this spinoff series could be about, but Martin has expressed that if a spinoff were to occur, he would have it take place ten thousand years into Westeros' past and call it The Long Night. He also doesn't doubt that HBO will find a way to get ‘Game of Thrones' somewhere in the title.

Though I would love to stay in Westeros for a while, I think it's high time that the show ended. We don't want it to run for too long until all the main actors start quitting. As for spinoffs, I wouldn't mind if it distanced itself a bit from Game of Thrones at all. Better Call Saul turned out to be a hit, and they didn't need to put ‘Breaking Bad' in the title to get people to check it out.

No release date has been announced for Game of Thrones 8.
