Star Wars 9 Filming Gets Pushed Back

The latest info reveal for Star Wars: The Last Jedi wasn't just limited to giving fans a sneak peek of what's to come this holiday season—it also gave use a hint on where the next movie stands.

Star Wars 9, which is still untitled, is already reportedly in the planning stage. However, this is actually a step back in the process, as the studio had to do quite a lot of modifications after the tragic passing of Carrie Fisher. According to Screenrant, Fisher, who plays General Leia Organa, was actually slated to be the star of Star Wars 9.

Her unexpected passing meant that Lucasfilm had to rework the way they had conceived how Star Wars 9 will run. It seems that they are now in the process of working out the story's narrative, but for the most part, the film is still on track with its new schedule to start filming on January 2018.

This is quite a good pace all things considered. Star Wars: The Last Jedi only took less than a year from production to the expected theater premiere.

Then again, it's not like the franchise will be lacking any movies following this year's installment. Already in production is the still-untitled Han Solo Star Wars spin-off, which will follow a young Han in his journey.

Currently, Star Wars 9 is slated for a May 2019 premiere in theaters, while its predecessor, Star Wars: The Last Jedi, will be out on Dec. 15.
