Game of Thrones World Will Expand with Spin-off Series

Game of Thrones fans may not need to dread the upcoming withdrawal attacks once the series ends its run with the eight season. HBO has already confirmed that a spin-off is coming once the main show has been rolled out.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, HBO CEO Richard Plepler did hint that the people behind the show have seen the demand for more content from the Game of Thrones world and because of that, some sort of "brand extension" may be in the works.

"Right now, we're focused on finishing the series with the kind of energy and excitement that everyone has come to expect. We're going to do that while at the same time parallel processing very embryonic stages of other possibilities."

Of course, the operative terms there include "parallel processing" and "embryonic stages." The terms are cryptic in themselves, as there was never really any series name drops given, so this is probably the network's way of teasing something to come but still keeping everything under veil.

For now, fans can expect that the original material, A Song of Ice and Fire series by George R.R. Martin will be a lot darker as winter draws nearer. In the author's words, since the winter is the time when things die, the same will go for some of the characters of the novel. And this is necessary before things go brighter once more.

The only catch is that we don't know if this dark section of the book will find its way into the script of Game of Thrones. There are only two seasons left in the show, with the next one coming in summer of 2017.
