Game of Thrones Season 6 Wowed Viewers During Hollywood Premiere Screening

The highly anticipated first episode of Game of Thrones season 6 made its premiere at the Chinese Theatre in Hollywood, California Sunday night. It appears that "wow," which one of the viewers exclaimed after watching the first episode, is an understatement of what's to come in the hit HBO series.

According to Entertainment Weekly, other crowd reactions from the episode were variations of "incredible" and "spectacular."

What even made this season more remarkable is how much work had been put into the production process, which showrunner David Benioff told the audience was "a beast to make."

He said:

We shot 680 hours of dailies, which translates to 3.7 million feet of film. We shot in five different countries – Northern Ireland, Spain, Croatia, Iceland, and Canada. We employed 900 crewmembers in Belfast; 400 in Spain.
We issued 140 script revisions. We two shot units a day for 22 weeks straight, three units a day for 10 weeks straight, four units for two weeks straight.

The premiere screening in Hollywood is reportedly the sole screening that will take place prior to the season 6 premiere on April 24. Game of Thrones producers asked guests to keep a lid on any plot points featured in the premiere, but below are a few vague details taken from the event via EW:

> The Red Woman starts off on a quicker pace than previous premiere episodes in past seasons, with each cliffhanger from the season 5 finale picking up where they left off.
> A hefty amount of scenes take place in Castle Black, but not all main characters appear in the first episode.
> Some scenes are "genuinely" shocking, as in even hardcore fans will not see coming.
> Previous trailers haven't even shown any hints of the surprises that will befall viewers in season 6.
> Cast who attended the event include Emilia Clarke, Peter Dinklage, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Sophie Turner and Maisie Williams. The first name I looked for in the EW article is Kit Harrington, but no, he wasn't in attendance, as well as author George R.R. Martin. (I'm still keeping my fingers that Jon Snow is alive.)
> The afterparty included a Hall of Faces photo booth, Three-Eyed Raven Soothsayer (fortune tellers), GoT-themed Henna tattoos, and a life-sized direwolf diorama.

Now, that's one hell of a Game of Thrones party and one hell of a way to keep fans at the edge of their seats.

Game of Thrones returns to HBO on April 24.
