Amid all the drama and tragedy in the latest episode of Game of Thrones, there's one thing that gives fans a bit of a reprieve – Tormund's crush on Brienne. The wildling really likes Brienne of Tarth, and it's her awkwardness over the situation and Tormund's bold advances that make it all the more amusing.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Brienne actress Gwendoline Christie talks about that scene in The Door where Kristofer Hivju, who plays Tormund shows his interest in Brienne while the character rolls her eyes at him.
Apparently, just like fans, Christie is a fan of the match-up.
Christie said:
First of all, Kristofer is absolutely hilarious. I don't think I've been in a scene on Game of Thrones when it's been everything I can do to stop myself from laughing. The way he was behaving toward me was just extraordinary.
While the crush is entertaining to see for fans, Christie looks at the situation from an acting vantage and she said it's fun to play this side of Brienne.
Christie added:
I enjoyed Brienne being put in that position of feeling awkward and not wanting the attention.
That was a very fun thing to play. He's a wildling, he's very sensual and animal-like and very forthright with his emotions and feelings — which is really the opposite of [Brienne]. I enjoyed trying to navigate that and the beauty of her embarrassment. She can totally deal with the situation, and with him, but she's just so embarrassed about it.
The 38-year-old English actress also revealed one scene that fans would appreciate seeing in the latest episode of the hit HBO series, but was deleted in the final cut.
Christie said it's a moment showing Sansa "going Mean Girls" on Brienne with Sophie Turner teasing her about Tormund's interest, "and you had the powerful warrior who's totally flustered."
I can just imagine that scene. I have a feeling that this romance could actually lead up to something, that is if neither Brienne nor Tormund dies.
