The 48-year-old Japanese artist is known for her Fullmetal Alchemist series, which became a huge hit since its publication in 2001 to 2003. The update about Arakawa's new project comes courtesy of Monthly Shonen Gangan, the magazine that once published Fullmetal Alchemist. MSG announced that Arakawa is working on a new manga series which will debut "soon".

The news comes on the heels of Fullmetal Alchemist's20th anniversary. The final chapter of Fullmetal Alchemist was released in 2010, and Arakawa started her next manga in 2011 with her take on slice-of-life story, Silver Spoon, which ended in 2019. Since then, she's been taking a break, but it looks like Arakawa is ready to get back to work.

As you can see in the sketch art above, Arakawa's new manga series will feature an archer protagonist. As expected, the character design looks similar to the art style of Fullmetal Alchemist. The hero is standing amongst a crowded background of scenery, and behind him, you can spot a mysterious figure locked behind bars, and another hooded character is shown in the background. They are flanked by two creatures. However, no plot details have been revealed yet, so fans will have to speculate for now. Nonetheless, it's exciting to see Arakawa working on what seems to be another epic fantasy project.
