Square Enix announced the increased server cap on Final Fantasy XIV'sofficial blog by series producer Naoki Yoshida, who said that by optimizing the machines used in the MMORPG's European data centers, Square will be able to accommodate 500 more simultaneous logins per World, making for a net increase of 6000 players across all the FFXIV servers in Europe.

This change will require emergency maintenance on the European servers, but fans in the region won't have to wait too long. The EU data centers will only be down for about four hours on Thursday, July 22. Yoshida went on to say that they will monitor the server situation carefully, and depending on the results of this update, they may be able to increase the player cap even further.

This new Final Fantasy XIV update is just one of the steps Square Enix is taking to deal with the massive influx of new players. Despite being nearly a decade old, FFXIV servers have swelled to capacity, forcing players to wait in long login queues before they can play, and the game has recently broken its all-time concurrent record on stream. The announceement of the new expansion called Endwalker, and the exodus of thousands of players from other MMO's, have helped the game increase its player base significantly.

Final Fantasy XIV: Endwalker is scheduled to release on November 19, 2021. For the latest news, updates, and memes about all things Final Fantasy, join our Final Fantasy Facebook fan page here.
