Episode VIII Dubrovnik Filming: Daisy Ridley’s Double Headed for Star Wars Set, New Photos Emerge

Star Wars: Episode VIII has begun filming in Dubrovnik this Wednesday. We've seen countless photo updates of the gorgeous set along Stradun main street over the past couple of days prior to filming, and now, we're getting a closer look at the set's construction. New information has also emerged regarding the upcoming shoot about Daisy Ridley's double.

The new information came in via an MSW source who's currently in the location.

The source revealed details about shoot preparations two days prior to actual filming:

> Daisy Ridley's stunt double, Chloe Bruce, has arrived in Croatia.

> Some scenes will involve stick-using battle/fighting scenes The crew has prepared for the scenes in the Dubrovnik aquatorium since some scenes will take place on the deck of the the tourist yacht, Sea Star.

> More tarpaulin-covered props have been erected. Later on, they were installed at the Dominican Monastery location, which already has neon illumination fixtures along the steps, a labyrinth looking-decorated ceiling, and what appears to be an arched passageway.

> A helicopter, at least one dolly camera, and a car-mounted camera will all reportedly be used for filming. Meanwhile, the set will be sealed off and guarded by "robotic anti-drone interceptors."

> On Wednesday, March 9, "accelerating speeder effects, crash noises, bangs, and small explosions" can be heard during night chase scenes (of which previous set photos have suggested).

> Pylons on the main Stradun have been fitted with "gilded or silvered stripes, while some received "conical" props.

> Cylindrical "power converter" props have also been brought in, while additional grayish wall panels have been fixed in.

> Main shooting adjustments are expected to take place at 4:00 p. m. local time on March 11, up to the wee hours of the morning. Meanwhile, actors are expected to arrive on March 12.

> Space Bear Industries have used Croatian coastal guards and divers during the afternoon today for a rehearsal shoot on the Sea Star yacht around Dubrovnik's Porporelo section. On the deck, a gigantic green screen is seen, which most likely will be used for CGI manipulation.

> Star Wars is reportedly paying Dubrovnik approximately 5,000,000 euros (around $6 million USD).

Daisy Ridley has confirmed before that she wouldn't be at the Croatian set. This would mean her double will be used to shoot the fight sequences, while the English actress will likely appear at the Pinewood studio for close-up scenes.

While Star Wars: Episode VIII is still more than a lightyear away, I always find it interesting and exciting to learn about the details of the shoot. It makes me more hyped to see the film and anticipate what to expect from it.

As each day passes, it seems more and more apparent that there will be some sort of speeder chase scene and battle sequence with Rey in it. It also looks to me as if the monastery will be used as the Jedi Temple, probably where Luke will train Rey at some point in Episode VIII. Even though Ridley has said she's not filming in Dubrovnik, I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Star Wars: Episode VIII will finish filming in Dubrovnik on March 16. The film is slated for release on December 15, 2107.
