Zack Snyder's Original Justice League Movie Was Supposed to Include A Romance Between Lois Lane and Batman

Zack Snyder recently revealed that there was an idea that was supposed to be included in Justice League. It is a story involving a love triangle with Lois Lane, Clark Kent/Superman, and Bruce Wayne/Batman.

The idea was that Bruce Wayne aka Batman will have a romantic plot with Amy Adams' Lois Lane. Snyder wanted to complicate Superman's resurrection in Justice League by making Bruce Wayne choose between his heroic ideals or his lonely heart as a human man.

In Snyder's interview with Vanity Fair, the director shared the path it took to make Zack Snyder's Justice League happen. According to the director, the intention was to have Bruce falling in love with Lois, but realized that the only way to save the world is to bring Superman back to life.

The studio didn't let Snyder push through with this plan which is why it was discarded. If this Lois/Bruce romantic plotline was used, some fans will surely get mad. However, in the DC lore, Lois flirted with two high-profile heroes in the DC universe, namely Batman and Superman. It became even more apparent in DC animated series the World's Finest crossover. Although Lois and Bruce never got too serious, this was an angle that Snyder was supposed to use for the film.

The storyline of Bruce Wayne considering to retire from his Batman alter-ego to be with a civilian love interest has been a long-time staple of the character. Still, it's a good option that the film built-up the more comic-traditional chemistry between Ben Affleck's Batman and Gal Gadot's Wonder Woman.

Here's what Snyder stated:

"The intention was that Bruce fell in love with Lois and then realized that the only way to save the world was to bring Superman back to life. So he had this insane conflict, because Lois, of course, was still in love with Superman. We had this beautiful speech where [Bruce] said to Alfred: ‘I never had a life outside the cave. I never imagined a world for me beyond this. But this woman makes me think that if I can get this group of gods together, then my job is done. I can quit. I can stop.' And of course, that doesn't work out for him."

Zack Snyder's Justice League will be released for streaming on HBO Max on March 18, 2021.
