WB is Reportedly Working on Joaquin Phoenix's Joker Sequel

Joaquin Phoenix's Joker in 2019 has become a major phenomenon in cinema. It is a famous character, taken from a famous comic book franchise, with a small budget similar to an independent film, gained one billion in the box office, and gained academy awards. The reports on a possibility have been scarce ever since it came out but apparently, there are certain plans in motion.

In a recent report for The Hollywood Reporter, it has been noted that The Batman, Joker, Gotham PD, and the planned sequel exist outside from the mainline of the DC Extended Universe. This new information isn't something new but the report specifically mentioning a Joker sequel was what gained attention.

Joker is a film that is loosely based on the infamous Batman villain with the same name. The movie focuses on a mentally ill man who is working hard as a for-hire clown. Arthur Fleck loses his job, gets bullied, and has no access to his medication, he begins spiraling down to madness.

The last update on any possible sequel for the film came from the film's director Todd Phillips in December 2019. Phillips stated that a movie that makes $1 billion from a $60 million budget will eventually lead to conversations for a possible sequel. At that time, he said that Joaquin and he have not decided but they are open to any possibilities.

The THR report did not further elaborate on any sequel update but just a sequel plan for the movie alongside the spinoff project from Robert Pattinson's The Batman which will be on HBO Max titled Gotham PD.
