Following the controversial firing of Gina Carano on The Mandalorian, UFC President Dana White has come out offering support to the former MMA star Gina Carano. Disney has removed Carano from all future seasons of the hit Disney+ show, after she made comments comparing how people with different political opinions in the US seemed to be persecuted just like how the Jewish people were during the Holocaust.
Carano fought in the UFC from 2006-2009. She later had a successful acting career on Fast and Furious and Deadpool. Her most successful one was in The Mandalorian as it was a recurring role as Cara Dune and a massive hit worldwide.
Her comments regarding the Holocaust led to a firestorm on social media which led to Lucasfilm dismissing Carano from the popular Disney+ show in the Star Wars universe. USA Today reported that White asked people who are still after Carano to stand down, adding that everyone makes mistakes. White said, "Leave Gina alone. Listen, we make mistakes. We all make mistakes."
An ESPN UFC reporter Ariel Helwani, who is also Jewish, said that he was very disappointed in Carano's comments, calling it tone-deaf and completely insensitive. White doubled on his support with Carano, saying that Helwani made the issue all about him, calling him a douche. White said, "For everybody to go in on her – I love how Ariel Helwani made it all about him. It was all about him. Such a douche."
As for the Cara Dune Mandalorian character, there were reports stating that Lucasfilm will not recast the role. There is no confirmation on the current plans for the role and people are looking forward to the update as the production for The Mandalorian Season 3 is drawing near.
That said, The Mandalorian Season 3 is expected to be released in December 2021.
