Fans of The Matrix franchise are truly excited for the upcoming fourth film of the movie series. The film is supposed to be released later this year, both in theaters and HBO Max. As fans wait for The Matrix 4's official title, we may have been hinted at by a staff working in the film.
It looks like fans have gotten the idea of the fourth film's official title, thanks to a photo shared by the film's hairstylist. Shunika Terry, a hairstylist in The Matrix 4, shared a post about a gift given to the production crew after the filming wrapped. In the post, a title can be seen. The gift features, "The Matrix Resurrections."
Although the title is not yet confirmed, the title fits very well with the other titles of the other sequels in The Matrix franchise. The other sequel titles were The Matrix Reloaded and The Matrix Revolutions, which makes The Matrix Resurrections a very fitting title.
Not only does it look similar to the other sequel titles, but it also fits the main trilogy's messianic theme. Neo, also known as the "One", fits the messianic persona and aligns with the term resurrection. Carrie-Anne Moss' Trinity and Keanu Reeves' Neo both died in the last film. If both of them come back to life for The Matrix 4, then the title Resurrections is an appropriate headliner.
Aquaman actor Yahya Abdul-Mateen II will also join the cast of The Matrix 4. The actor is reportedly going to take on a lead role, which could be the young version of Morpheus. Jada Smith will also reprise her role as Niobe. Other cast members added to the mix are Neil Patrick Harris, Jessica Henwick, and Jonathan Groff. Harris might end up playing as the villain of the story.
Lana Wachowski is directing The Matrix 4 and it is scheduled for a December 22, 2021 release date.
