Ready Player Two Author Confirms Movie Adaptation For the Sequel is Underway

A movie adaptation of Ready Player Two is in early development according to its author, Ernest Cline. His original nostalgia-fueled novel was released in 2011. The novel caught the attention of Steven Spielberg. The director started setting his sites on directing a big-screen adaptation of Ready Player One, which was finally released in 2011. The movie was received with moderately positive reviews with a decent box office success for Warner Bros earning over $580 million worldwide.

The popularity of Ready Player One came when Cline was in the middle of writing the sequel of his novel, Ready Player Two that was announced in 2015. This made the possibility of a movie adaptation for the second installment more likely. The Ready Player Two novel has been released. Readers have begun to dive into the story of Wade Watts. Fans are also wondering what the future can hold for the movie.

Cline is currently doing a press release for Ready Player Two. This would mean that the author would more likely address the status of his book which is becoming the inspiration for a sequel movie. According to Inverse, Cline also confirmed that the development for the sequel has started. It is currently in the early stages right now and has yet to be announced by the studio.

Cline believes that most of the original team will be returning after having a great time in creating Ready Player One. The author stated, "It's in the early stages right now, especially since Hollywood is in limbo right now. But I can tell from the experience of making the first movie that everybody had a lot of fun."

Even though Warner Bros have not officially announced the Ready Player Two movie, Cline would surely know if an adaptation for his book is coming. Whether or not Spielberg will return to direct the sequel is the question. However, the director helped Cline in writing the book so it's likely that he has ideas on how he would bring the story to life.
