Netflix's Death Note Sequel Will Be A More Faithful Adaptation


Scriptwriter Greg Russo is making his name in many projects. After finishing his work with Mortal Kombat, he is starting his work on Saints Row and Space Invaders, he is still able to find time to work on the next adaptation of the popular anime and manga franchise of Death Note.

The first live-action film of Death Note was not well received by many fans, receiving at 38% on Rotten Tomatoes. Some fans didn't like the changes made on Light, the tone of the movie, and the deviation from the plot.

However, a recent interview with Russo may give fans new hope. Russo revealed in an interview with WeGotThisCovered, Russo discussed the Mortal Kombat project and also talked a little bit about the live-action version of Death Note on Netflix. He said that the Netflix sequel will be a more faithful adaptation to the manga and anime franchise.

Russo said that it is quite funny because it sounds as if there is a shift in the genre but it all boils down to adapting the IP. The writer added that the project is about bringing over a piece of fan property and doing it right.

He added that he is a huge fan of the manga, exclaiming that he believes it is one of the greatest mangas ever written. Russo didn't play any part in the first movie but he had a point of view of what he wanted to do in a sequel. For him, he wants to go back to the source material.

The first live-action film of Death Note is available for streaming on Netflix.
