During the promotional period of Zack Snyder's Justice League, there have been multiple trailers and teasers that were put out. One of the most iconic and memorable trailers included Jared Leto's Joker stating, "We live in a society, where honor is a distant memory." However, when the film was released on HBO Max, the iconic line was nowhere to be seen.
Recently, Zack Snyder has shared an extended version of the epilogue's Knightmare scene which showed the moment Leto's Joker spoke about the infamous phrase. The director tweeted a clip of the scene which was supposed to include some lines that were left on the cutting room floor.
Aside from sharing the "We live in a society," seen, Snyder also added a link to the Thirty Second to Mars' Spring page, where fans can buy a t-shirt or a hoodie with the Joker's phrase in it. 50 percent of the proceeds will go to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. It has to be noted that Thirty Seconds to Mars is a band that was co-founded by Leto.
The phrase "we live in a society" was a clear connection to Joaquin Phoenix's version of the Joker. The line did not make it to the final cut of the film. Snyder explained that there was a second ending of the Joker scene which was slightly different than the version that was released. Snyder said that in the second version, he included that line.
Snyder added that he thinks the line was cool, adding that maybe fans may get to see it someday. The director further noted that he also liked "the broken, the tricked, the vulnerable" Joker that was seen in the movie.
