In the very first featurette for James Gunn's The Suicide Squad, it can be easily remembered that John Cena mentioned that his character, Peacemaker, is like the "douchey" version of Marvel's Captain America. However, based on the histories of the two characters, the two have their similarities and differences.
As Screenrant noted, Peacemaker first came out in 1966, as a pacifist diplomat. He is very dedicated to peace that he fought using non-lethal ways to achieve it. Captain America was introduced before Peacemaker, as it came out in 1940. Captain America has always been a soldier.
Based on The Suicide Squad trailer has shown the Peacemaker to be obsessed with peace that he is willing to killing for it. Captain America is a patriot and seeks a peaceful resolution to issues but he is not entirely a pacifist. Captain America can use some sort of violence against those who are threatening the safety of others, such as the Hydra agents in the elevator. He even fought against Iron Man for his old friend, Bucky, who was a brainwashed assassin and committed atrocious killings.
However, based on The Suicide Squad's trailer, Peacemaker may have been imprisoned due to his actions while Captain America's use of violence to protect others is socially accepted. Although Captain America became some sort of vigilante in Civil War for siding with Bucky.
Moreover, the equipment that they use can be reminiscent of their ideals. Captain America's tool is a shield while the Peacemaker has a helmet and a long-barrelled pistol. Captain America's shield is used for defense and to shield himself from attacks. However, it can be used offensively when Cap throws it. Meanwhile, Peacemaker wears a helmet with no other things protecting his body parts and a gun which is mostly used as an offensive weapon.
Peacemaker can be considered a parody of Captain America and there may be some comparisons that can be done. However, there are many details that make each character unique in their own way.
The Suicide Squad will be released on August 6, 2021.
