Georgia's Senate Election Led to Grand Admiral Thrawn Trending on Twitter

Star Wars villain Grand Admiral Thrawn trended on Twitter while the Georgia Senate runoff election was happening. The cause was due to an old tweet from political candidate Jon Ossoff. Georgia's Senate election had an unexpected effect, which caused Grand Admiral Thrawn to be catapulted into the mix of political quips on Twitter.

Who is Grand Admiral Thrawn?

When Governor Pryce of Lothal wanted a stronger commander to help in dismantling the rebellion, the Empire used Grand Admiral Thrawn. Mitth'raw'nuruodo is better known by the name Grand Admiral Thrawn. Thrawn is a male Chiss. He served as a high-ranking officer in the Imperial Navy. He has striking blue skin, an angular face, and red eyes. He is well-known for his ruthlessness and brilliance when it comes to strategy.

The character was created by Timothy Zahn. Thrawn debuted in 1991's Heir to the Empire. His history was erased after Lucasfilm announced that the Expanded Universe will no longer be canon. He was later reintroduced in Star Wars: Rebels Season 3.

Star Wars: Rebels ended with Thrawn going missing, along with Ezra Bridger. The two went missing in the events of the Galactic Civil. Ahsoka Tano (Rosario Dawson) mentioned Thrawn in The Mandalorian Season 2, which may be setting up his return in the upcoming Disney+ series, Ahsoka, which is a spin-off series of The Mandalorian.

Thrawn began trending on Twitter after the old tweet of the Democratic candidate resurfaced on the night of the election. On October 30, 2012, Ossoff tweeted, "Will it be the Thrawn Trilogy? #starwars #episode7." His tweet came out the same day when Disney announced that it will purchase Lucasfilm and release a new trilogy of Star Wars films.
