DC's Zatanna Movie Reportedly Tapped Netflix's The Crown's Actress to Write the Script

A Zatanna movie is reportedly under development at DC Films. A new report also added that there is a writer that has been onboarded for the film.

Variety reported that Emerald Fennell was hired to write the Zatanna film from J.J. Abrams' Bad Robot Productions. The plan for the film is to be released in theaters.
Fennell was the executive producer and writer on Killing Eve. She played the role of Camilla Parker-Bowles in The Crown's Season 3. She rose to fame back in 2020 after the release of her feature-length directorial and writing debut titled Promising Young Woman. The film was also nominated for Best Picture at the Oscars and BAFTAs.

IGN added that in 2020, Abrams is working on TV and movie projects for Justice League Dark. Zatanna was reportedly part of the team, but there are no confirmations if the Zatanna film and the Justice League Dark projects are somehow related.

Zatanna made it to the big screen when she made a cameo in the Teen Titans Go! to the Movies, as well as on the live-action on the Smallville series where the character was played by Serinda Swan.

The most recent appearance was the direct-to-video movie Justice League Dark: Apokolips War where the character was played by Camilla Luddington.
Zatanna was introduced in Hawkman #4 in 1968. The comics were written by Gardner Fox and drawn by Murphy Anderson. In her first appearance, Zatanna is a stage magician who had real magical abilities.

The new Zatanna film joins the long list of DC movies that are slated to be released. Some of the confirmed reports included new films with confirmed release dates include James Gunn's The Suicide Squad, The Flash, and The Batman.
