Cyberpunk 2077 is facing another hurdle. The game's developer, CD Projekt is facing a second class-action lawsuit. A law firm representing the studio's investors submitted the lawsuit.
CD Projekt itself released a regulatory announcement wherein it says that the company has received the lawsuit. The class-action lawsuit has been filed in the US District Court for the Central District of California, on behalf of the studio's investors. The lawsuit's content is similar to the one filed against the studio at the end of 2020. The first lawsuit claims that the investors were misled with regards to the performance of Cyberpunk 2077 on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One Consoles.
The regulatory announcement also indicated that the complaint has not specified the amount of the damages that are being sought after. It is unknown how much the investors would like to claim from the legal action. Regardless of how much those damages may amount to, the company intends to defend itself, stating that it will, "undertake vigorous action to defend itself against any such claims.".
Cyberpunk 2077's launch last December 2020 was not a smooth one. However, the implications of its poor performance were not just about the unsatisfied players. The highly anticipated game had caused significant expectations from its investors which led to the fallout. One of the fallouts involves Cyberpunk 2077's removal from the PlayStation store.
Furthermore, the company's approach to refunding the players is currently under investigation by Poland's consumer protection agency. The agency can impose fines on CDP, which can be up to 10% of its income if the agency deems that their refund practice is unsatisfactory.
Despite all these mishaps and problems, Cyberpunk 2077 was a commercial success for the studio as it has 13 million copies sold.
