Could Cyberpunk 2077's Failed Launch Led to the Massive Price Drop?

Cyberpunk 2077 was supposed to be one of the most highly anticipated games of 2020. However, its launch was met with controversies when it launched last December 2020. The most problematic issues were the fact that players requested refunds. One of its major issues was its poor performance in consoles. Although price drops are not uncommon, the massive price drop for the game seems to be suggesting otherwise.

The original price for Cyberpunk 2077 was $249.99 on Amazon. However, just more than a month after its release, the game's price has massively dropped. Customers can get the game for only $29.99 on Amazon and Best Buy. If the customer buys the game Best Buy, there is even a free Steelbook case that comes with it.

Price drops that happen after launch are not entirely uncommon when it comes to Playstation and Xbox titles. However, as Comicbook.com noted, it may possibly not be the original plan for Cyberpunk 2077. It sold over 13 million copies despite the problematic launch. Whether the price drop is really a plan or not, the current pricing is a great value for avid fans who would like to try the game but couldn't due to its expensive pricing at first.

Cyberpunk 2077 needs more time to be refined. CD Projekt Red is expected to deliver its promise to make the game better. A great game will likely come out once all the bugs are fully fixed. As of the moment, CDPR appears to be releasing updates quickly. Additionally, the free DLC and next-gen upgrades for Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5 are expected to be released in the game within this year.

The question remains if the price of Cyberpunk 2077 will go any lower than its current price drop. At some point, it will probably drop but it may not be anytime soon. The $29.99 pricing may not stick around for so long as the game gets more upgrades and fix the bugs.

Cyberpunk 2077 is available on PC, Google Stadia, PS%, Xbox Series X, Xbox One, PS4, and PS5.
