Captain Marvel and Brie Larson Trends Following the Release of Wonder Woman 1984

Wonder Woman 1984 has finally dropped on COVID-safe theaters and HBO Max on 2020's Christmas day. The movie soared to $85 million globally despite the ongoing pandemic that has halted the theater industry. Warner Bros. is seemingly impressed that they have Wonder Woman 3 immediately greenlit just after the movie's release. The release of the film led to more comic book movie chatter on Twitter, where another female-led superhero from Marvel is trending.

Captain Marvel and Brie Larson are trending on Twitter with some positive tone included in it. It is well-known in the industry that Captain Marvel received many negative criticisms due to varying reasons. Some of the people who hated the film seemed to be mad at the actress, while others said they didn't like how she portrayed Carol Danvers. Despite the backlash Larson and the movie received, the film still grossed a billion dollars at the box office.

People are not only talking about Wonder Woman after the recent film was released but other heroines in the comic boom world including Birds of Prey and Captain Marvel. It is unclear how the trend for Larson's film started, but despite the previous backlash in 2019, fans are showering praises and commendations to Carol Danvers and Larson.

Here are some of the fans' comments:

One of the most striking tweets was a fan sharing Gal Gadot and Brie Larson together in a photo. The fan stated that both Wonder Woman and Captain Marvel are good, reminding others that just because they like one doesn't mean they have to negative with the other. On December 10, 2020, Disney held its Investor Day live stream. Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige shared an update regarding Captain Marvel 2. Feige confirmed the long-standing reports that Nia DaCosta will direct the film. Kamala Khana or Ms. Marvel to be played by Iman Vellani will also join the film's characters, along with Monica Rambeau, who will be played by Teyonah Parris. The script for Captain Marvel 2 is written by Megan McDonnell which is currently a staff writer for Disney+ series WandaVision.

Meanwhile, Wonder Woman 1984 will only be available on HBO Max users without additional cost for one month. Afterward, it will be moved to the premium video-on-demand for an additional cost.
