The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is a tie-in game that was actually written by the original's author. Back in 1984, English author Douglas Adams designed an interactive text adventure game inspired by his classic novel—and fans loved it. It was a big hit in the '80s.

Now, thanks to the BBC (which originally aired The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy radio drama), you can now play the game that was inspired by the first book in the series. In the game, you play as Arthur Dent while he navigates the unwanted danger of being whisked into space.

If you've never played a text adventure before, you might find its gameplay unfamiliar. Here's what the revamped game looks like on the BBC website, but the original version was less visual, consisting only of text commands.

The BBC website warns that you're likely to be killed a lot in the game, so make sure to create a BBC account so you can save the game.
