Donald Glover’s Agent Didn’t Think He Could Land Solo: A Star Wars Story’s Lando

Star Wars fans might have nothing but love for Donald Glover's version of Lando after seeing the previews for Solo: A Star Wars Story, but back when word had it that Lucasfilm was working with Lando in it, the Atlanta star's agent didn't think that he could land the role.

Glover just recently sat down with Esquire, and during his interview with the publication, the Solo star admitted that he had made the first move to audition for Lando as soon as he heard that Lucasfilm was working on a Han Solo spinoff. According to Glover he had called his agent saying that he wanted to be Star Wars youn Lando, and though his agent didn't really like his chances, Glover went ahead anyway to audition for the role.

"That was exactly what I needed to hear," Glover said, talking about his agent thought his chances to play Lando weren't that good. "because I'm the person who's not supposed to make it, so much so that I don't think people recognize where I came from and what I've done. At a certain point, it does look easy. I do sometimes look like a Mary Sue. I was like, ‘Oh, okay, cool.' I studied, I watched the movies a lot, and I killed it, because I was ready."

Glover was always a big fan of Lando. Though the actor was raised as a Jehova's Witness, Glover says Star Wars was a big deal for his family, so much so that his father would take him out of school just to see the prequels. Glover also had a Lando figurine, one that he slept with when he was younger.

Fans certainly don't have to worry about Glover's version of Star Wars smooth swindler. Glover certainly has what it takes to be a younger version of Lando.
