Disney Confirms Infinite ‘Star Wars’ and ‘Marvel’ Movie Franchise

Fans rejoice! It's pretty much certain now that we'll be seeing a never-ending streak of Star Wars and Marvel films in the years, decades, no – centuries to come.

We all know that eventually we'll be seeing the next films in the new Star Wars trilogy, Rian Johnson's Star Wars: Episode 8 and Colin Trevorrow‘s Star Wars: Episode IX. Then there's Gareth Edwards‘ Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, as well as the yet to be titled Han Solo spin-off by Chris Miller and Phil Lord.

Apparently, there's more to come, and come they will.

"There are five Star Wars films – four more with Episode VII: The Force Awakens – that are in varying stages of development and production. There will be more after that, I don't know how many, I don't know how often," Disney chairman Bob Iger told BBC's Newsbeat.

As for Marvel Studios, Disney has the same plans.

"Marvel, you're dealing with thousands and thousands of characters - that will go on forever," Iger said.

It isn't really surprising for Marvel, since there's literally thousands of characters (and counting) in the comics. It's been kind of inevitable with Star Wars too since the producer bought Lucasfilm for $4 billion. With that kinds of funding, it would be a waste to stop making films about the galaxy far, far away after a few films.

This good news can be a double-edged sword however, specifically with Star Wars. Having an annual release might not bode well for the franchise.

According to Slash Film, this already happened with the two final Hunger Games films. The last two raked in a lot less at the box office as compared to the first two.

Star Wars movies used to be rare events, which is why they have been highly anticipated by millions of fans. If they happen to be released every December, people might get too much of Star Wars.

Then again, we can't really have too much of Star Wars. That's just my opinion being a fan. Also, Disney and Lucasfilm have probably thought this plan out for a long time before striking a deal.

I'm just excited to find out that we're never going to run out of new, and probably better Force action in the future.
