Star Wars Films to Go on Hiatus After The Rise of Skywalker

These last few years have been very good for Star Wars fans with the release of several separate films such as Rogue One and Solo in addition to its already on-going trilogy. This may be the last time this will happen for a while, though after Disney's CEO Bob Iger's confirmation of a "hiatus" after the release of The Rise of Skywalker, which is set to close the franchise's latest trilogy this December.

Several reports and figures are already expecting The Rise of Skywalker to be its trilogy's weakest sequel in terms of sales and is already being projected to have the lowest opening weekend box office of the three films. That said, however, fans should enjoy it while it lasts.

This news comes just mere days after it was announced that Game of Thrones showrunners D.B. Weiss and David Benioff will no longer be able to work with Lucasfilm for their supposed trilogy which according to previous reports, was expected to explore the origins of the Jedi. The franchise is also expected to have films directed by Rian Johnson and Kevin Feige, however, there have yet to be any solid details of what these films may entail or when they'll be arriving.

Of course, fans do still have one final hurrah before The Rise of Skywalker and that's the release of The Mandalorian. The six-part series is set to be released on November 12 together with the launch of streaming device Disney+. As for The Rise of Skywalker itself, it is set to hit theaters on December 20.
