DC Super Hero Girls Animated Series Coming in 2018

Cartoon Network has announced a new animated series that will put DC Comics' well-known female heroes in the spotlight.

Dubbed DC Super Hero Girls, the animated series will let viewers see these heroes in a younger, teenage light. According to the official press release (via Deadline), the superhero gals will be fighting not just evil and injustice, but also fending off the growing pains of being a teenager.

DC Super Hero Girls will be produced by Lauren Faust, who's also responsible for My Little Pony and The Powerpuff Girls, while Sam Register (Teen Titans Go! and Justice League Action) will be executive producer.

Based on what's known about the storyline, we'll be seeing Zatanna, Green Lantern Jessica Cruz, and Bumblebee being sisters in friendship and in fighting. Diana and Tatsu (her study buddy Katana) will be clashing on their meaning of justice. There's even that nice twist where we get to see Batgirl Barbara actually being besties with Harley Quinn--and finding out that she's actually her foe.

Considering the backgrounds of the producers onboard, I get the feeling that it will merge all that's nice about The Powerpuff Girls and all the X-factor in Justice League Action, so I'm all excited for the series.

DC Super Hero Girls will be a standalone series, but will also build up on direct-to-video movies and YouTube digital webisodes of the franchise. It will be released in 2018.
