Commissioner Gordon Is An Ex-Marine In Justice League

Jim Gordon will be making his DCEU debut in this week's Justice League, and he will be played by J.K. Simmons, who many fans will remember from Sam Raimi's Spider-Man trilogy. While he won't be a major character in the film, a few tidbits learned from the Justice League: Official Collector's Edition tie-in magazine does make him a bit more interesting and could set up a fun film future for him.

Simmons brought up the fact that Gordon is an ex-marine in this universe, something that was downplayed in Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight trilogy and pretty much every other incarnation of the character outside of the comics. While he'll always be eclipsed when comparing to Batman, Simmons pointed out that he is a champion compared to everything else.

"My take on Commissioner Gordon is that he's a badass but that's an under-appreciated part of who he is, because he's eclipsed by the ultimate badass, Batman. But Gordon is a tough ex-Marine, who worked his way up and can handle himself in the turf of bad guys. Compared to Batman, he's just a regular guy, but compared to most people, he's a champion."

Fans know that Gordon is a strong character in both physical and mental terms. Seeing his ex-marine backstory from Batman: Year One brought up here is a nice touch and could mean that he'll be kicking some Parademon butt in the film. If not, he can always beat up some fools in Matt Reeves' upcoming Batman trilogy.

Justice League comes to cinemas on November 17.
