NCIS: Los Angeles fans are already excited for its return because Season 13 is just weeks away. The last season ended with a shocking exit of two longtime cast members Barrett Foa (Eric Beale) and Renee Felice Smith (Neil Jones).

In the finale, Eric, the team's onetime tech operator-turned-rising technician told his partner, intelligence analyst Nell that he has received funding for the international HQ of his Kaleidoscope-based tech firm. However, he had to move to Tokyo and the episode ended with Nell joining Eric's adventure.

So, here's what fans can expect in the upcoming season.

What is the plot for NCIS: Los Angeles Season 13?

In NCIS: Los Angeles Season 13 Callen (Chris O' Donnell) will suspect Hetty (Linda Hunt) of keeping secrets about his past. Meanwhile, Joelle (Elizabeth Bogush) will return in her quest to capture Katya (Jana Kolesarova).

NCIS will also track down an informant whose life is at risk. Meanwhile, Kensi (Daniela Ruah) and Deeks (Eric Christian Olsen) will be working on expanding their family.

The premiere episode of Season 13 will also be the show's 300th episode. To celebrate the milestone, the show might bring back old faces.

"I always like to have fun when we hit those milestones, and, if possible, bring back familiar faces to celebrate," executive producer R. Scott Gemmill told TVLine.

Who will return in NCIS: Los Angeles Season 13?

The majority of the main NCIS: LA cast will be returning in the upcoming season. O'Donnell, Cool J, Ruah, Olsen, Medalion Rahimi, and Caleb Castille will all be returning for some high-stakes assignments.

Also, since Renée and Barrett exited the series last season, Gerald McRaney, who appeared as a recurring guest star, was promoted to a series regular.

McRaney plays as Retired Navy Admiral Hollace Kilbride. He has been playing the role since 2014.

"When you have an actor of Gerald McRaney's caliber, you do everything you can to make sure you get him as often as possible," Gemmill told Deadline.

"Admiral Kilbride has been an esteemed part of our universe for seven years now and we look forward to viewers seeing him come in and shake up our NCIS: LA world."

Hunt's character, Hetty, returned in Season 12 and will be staying in the upcoming season. She might be sharing duties with Killbride now that the latter has become a series regular.

"They're both very smart and very stubborn, so it makes for a fun and volatile dynamic," Gemmill told TV Insider about the duo. "Kilbride outranks Hetty, but he does respect her, even if he disagrees with her methodology and [sometimes] questions the cost of her successes."

The EP added that the new season will also show more about Hetty's mission that took her out of ops last season. She will try to resolve it on her own, but it will only suck the entire team much to Killbride's disapproval.
