According to TV Insider, the first four episodes from NCIS Season 19 will center on the serial killer arc. After which, this issue would've already be resolved or set aside for later.

Since Gibbs is not an official member of the NCIS team after he was fired his job last season, it's possible that he would opt to take a much-needed break.

Earlier this month, there were rumors that Harmon is ready to leave the show behind after starring in NCIS since 2003.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Harmon heard that CBS would end NCIS if he decides to quit the series. After all, he's the lead star of the show.

The speculations about Harmon's exit heightened after the creators of NCIS decided to promote Gary Cole and Katrina Law to series regulars.

However, NCIS showrunner Steven D. Binder previously said that Cole's isn't replacing Harmon.

"We haven't shot a single frame quite yet, but with the addition of Gary Cole and Katrina Law to the cast, this is already shaping up to be one of the best seasons yet. Going into season 19, we are excited to have new characters and stories to tell that adds to and reenergizes the world we've come to love over the 400-plus episodes," Binder said.

Is NCIS Season 20 Confirmed?

CBS has not yet made a final decision regarding the fate of NCIS. After all, NCIS Season 19 just premiered, and there are still a lot of episodes left.

But even if the crime drama will be renewed or not, Binder promised fans that they will give Harmon's character a satisfying ending.

"There's really a couple of possibilities here. One is that we get canceled tomorrow and then there's nothing to be 'contingent' about. The other option is that Gibbs is either solving cases in his 90s, or he gets a gold watch and retires. Neither of those things sounds interesting to me, but at some point in time when that happens, if we find ourselves still on the air and people are thinking of retiring, you have to think about something befitting that character — and a gold watch ain't it. But we're not really thinking too hard at this moment about such a thing," he told TV Line.
