Petition to Reinstate Johnny Depp in Pirates Franchise Now Aiming for 1 Million Signatures

Things aren't looking that great for Johnny Depp's career following his highly publicized legal battle with ex-wife Amber Heard. Their messy personal issue led to Depp losing his role as Jack Sparrow in Disney's Pirates of the Caribbean franchise. Not only that, but the controversy also cost him his opportunity to reprise his role as Gellert Grindelwald in Fantastic Beasts 3.

Despite the issues surrounding his personal life, fans are still behind Depp who has been accused of being a wife-beater and they'll stop at nothing to prove that the actor has been wrongfully dropped from his projects by his former employers. We've previously covered an online petition demanding Johnny's reinstatement in the Pirates franchise which was launched a couple of years back and unsurprisingly, it's been doing really well.

The said petition gained new traction after Depp lost his Grindelwald role late last year and now, it finally reached its initial target goal of 500,000 signatures. But the creators of the Change.org petition aren't stopping there. Now, they're aiming to get 1,000,000 signatures as their quest to prove Depp's innocence continues.

It's an incredible feat for sure but the real question is, what's next and where exactly do we go from here? Assuming that the petition will cross the 1 million mark in the future, it still means nothing until Disney steps in and reverses its decision. And quite frankly, I don't think that's on their mind right now, no matter how irritating that sounds to a lot of Depp's supporters. But you know what they say, anything is possible and you can never say never.

As it stands, Disney's Pirates of the Caribbean franchise will move forward with Margot Robbie.
