Direct Challenge and Friends Feature Coming Soon for Magic: The Gathering Arena

In a video and tweet released last Thursday, Magic: The Gathering Arena creators announced that the ability to challenge and play with friends is coming in either the next update or the update after that. The video begins with a series of mean tweets read Jimmy Kimmel style about MTG Arena. Watch the video below:

We don't yet know the details of how the direct challenge feature will work, but based on the tweet it seems like you will at least be able to have a friends list and the ability to challenge players from there. Players have been demanding a play with friends feature in Arena since its release, so it's good to see that Wizards of the Coast plans to implement it. Another feature that players have at the top of their list is the ability to play Arena on Mac, iPad, and Android devices. Currently, Arena players can only play on PC. Wizards of the Coast tweeted that the game will remain PC only while it is in beta; however, once the game is final it will be exported to other formats.

Arena has made huge improvements since its initial closed beta release in December of 2017. In September of this year, the game went into open beta. Although the game is still in beta, it's seen a blizzard of activity, with over 100 million games played on the platform to date.

Magic: The Gathering Arena is a free-to-play digital version of the collectible trading card game Magic: The Gathering and features stylish animations and sound effects similar to Hearthstone. You can download the open beta version here https://magic.wizards.com/en/mtgarena.
