Thor: Love and Thunder actress Natalie Portman is already training for her grand Marvel Cinematic Universe comeback. In case you didn't know, Portman will be playing an even bigger role upon her return to the MCU. Her character Jane Foster will be undergoing some drastic changes as the mortal becomes the worthy God, or should we say "Goddess" of Thunder for the sequel.
Speaking with Yahoo, Portman expressed her excitement over returning to the MCU for the project and although she didn't really go into detail as to when they will begin filming, she revealed that she's already training to pack on some muscle for the role. She said: "I can’t tell you that much. I’m really excited."
The biggest takeaway from the interview, however, is the fact that Natalie may have also revealed that MCU Jane Foster will indeed be faithful to its source material. To those unaware, Foster was once diagnosed with breast cancer in The Mighty Thor comic series. Portman added: "I’m starting to train, to get muscles. If there can be all these female superheroes, the more of them they are, the better it is. I’m trying to think — it’s based on the graphic novel of The Mighty Thor. She’s going through cancer treatment and is a superhero on the side."
Whether Natalie was just assuming the fate of her character in the MCU or it's a clear foreshadowing of what's to come, we should all be excited for Jane's return to the fold. It's also amazing that this time around, she's no longer the damsel in distress she was during the first two Thor films. The dynamic between him and the Asgardian hero will also be intriguing considering they've parted ways romantically following Thor: The Dark World. Speaking of, fans can rest assured knowing that Love and Thunder will be following the same treatment as Ragnarok which definitely gave the franchise the boost it so desperately needed.
Thor: Love and Thunder is slated for release in 2022.
