Zack Snyder Claims He Was Pressured to Make Justice League Comedic and Lighthearted

We've all heard several stories about the infamous theatrical cut of Justice League and what exactly happened behind the scenes after Zack Snyder "stepped down" from his role as director following the death of his daughter. Snyder has recently come out to reveal that he was forced to withdraw from the project, presumably by Warner Bros. and it had nothing to do with the passing of his daughter.

Of course, a lot of you are aware that Joss Whedon took over the directorial chair, and to those who were able to see his version of the film, the difference between it and its predecessor Batman v Superman is night and day with the theatrical cut being a little more lighthearted than the previous films helmed by Snyder.

According to Snyder, when he was helming the project, he was pressured to make the film more comedic and lighthearted than it should be. In a recent interview with Total Film Magazine (via GamesRadar), Snyder shared: "[The original plan] was absolutely being twisted during production, but you know, I was there to fight them. Even though there was pressure on me to make it funnier and lighten it, I would persist as much as I could to keep the tone as much as I could."

"I added a bunch of things for them, and I was always careful to make sure I covered things both ways, so that it didn't affect the movie story-wise. It was my hope that, in post-production, I'd be able to force my will upon them."

Obviously, Snyder didn't like the creative direction WB was going for and it totally makes sense considering his films have always followed a certain template. It's no secret that Zack's first two films in the DCEU were more geared towards the contemporary and diehard comic book fans and whether you were a fan of his style or not, I'll leave that one up to you.

Now, I truly hope that his version of Justice League ends up becoming triumphant as it will undoubtedly open new doors for him to potentially remain in the franchise he pretty much started. I'm 100% hopeful.
