X-Men Star Elliot Page Reveals Collapsing in 2010 After Being Asked to Wear a Dress

The Umbrella Academy and X-Men star Elliot Page's life has been an open book for a number of years now since his admission in 2014 that he's gay. December of last year, the actor stunned Hollywood anew with the revelation that he now identifies himself as a transgender while officially adopting the name "Elliot". Following his bold declaration, the actor, who formerly went by the name Ellen Page was lauded by his colleagues and fans for his fearlessness and the way he embraces who he truly is, becoming an even bigger inspiration and icon to the LGBTQ+ community.

Naturally, it wasn't an easy task for Elliot having to conceal his true sexual orientation to the world all these years, and in a new interview with Oprah Winfrey, he opened up about his struggles especially during those times when he was forced to hide in the closet. In the interview, Elliot revealed a horrific incident that took place during the premiere of the 2010 blockbuster Inception where he apparently collapsed after being asked by her manager to wear dresses. According to him, the pressure on his gender identity was just too much that it would often give him panic attacks.

Elliot recalls during the sit-down interview: "There was so much press and so many premieres all around the world and I was wearing dresses and heels to pretty much every single event. I lost it, it was like a cinematic moment. That night, after the premiere at the after-party, I collapsed. That's something that's happened frequently in my life, usually corresponding with a panic attack."

A lot of people may look at it from a different perspective and feel like it isn't that much of a big deal but I gotta say, I admire Page's courage and his decision to walk to the beat of his own drum. Again, the actor has become an even bigger inspiration and the community and his side of the story will always matter especially to the people who are currently experiencing all the things he went through in the past.


Elliot Page is set to return for the third season of Netflix's The Umbrella Academy.
